Former Yankees Star Brett Gardner Shares Heartbreaking Loss of Son
In a tragic announcement, former Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner and his wife Jessica revealed the loss of their 14-year-old son, Miller. According to a statement released by the family, Miller fell ill while on vacation, alongside other family members, and passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 21, 2025.
“With heavy hearts, we are saddened to announce the passing of our youngest son, Miller,” the parents wrote. “He was 14 years old and has left us far too soon after falling ill along with several other family members while on vacation.”
The family refrained from sharing further details about the illness and requested privacy as they grieve. “We have so many questions and so few answers at this point, but we do know that he passed away peacefully in his sleep,” the statement continued.

Gardner and Jessica, who are also parents to another son, Hunter, expressed their gratitude for the outpouring of support they have received. “We are confident our faith, family, and friends will help us navigate this unimaginable loss,” they said. “Our prayers go out to Miller’s teammates and friends, as well as to all other families who have lost a child far too soon as we share their grief.”
The New York Yankees, Gardner’s team throughout his 14-year Major League Baseball career, issued a statement mourning the loss of Miller. “Our hearts are heavy, and the Yankees family is filled with grief after learning of the passing of Miller Gardner,” the statement read. “Miller had a spark in his eyes, an outgoing and feisty personality, and a warm and loving nature.”
The Yankees also expressed unwavering support for the Gardner family, emphasizing their respect for the family’s wish for privacy during this difficult time.
