Harry and King Charles’ relationship hits rock bottom for a heartbreaking reason
Tensions between the royal father and son have worsened, leaving their bond in a fragile state
The relationship between Prince Harry and King Charles has been tense, and this has affected the King’s relationship with his grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. While Charles is close with Prince William’s children, he has only seen Archie a few times and Lilibet just once.
According to The Mirror, Charles has talked about visiting Harry and his family in the United States “at some point in the future.”
Royal expert Tom Quinn told the newspaper that if the visit happens, Charles would try to spend time with Harry and his grandchildren. However, he added that a lot of planning would need to be done before such a visit could happen.
Quinn also said that Charles is eager to see his grandchildren. He doesn’t want Archie and Lilibet to grow up not remembering him as a loving grandfather.
Relationship expert Louella Alderson also shared her thoughts with The Mirror. She said that Charles wanting to visit his son and family shows he cares, but his royal duties and health issues mean that any trip would need to be planned very carefully.
When Harry was in London this May for an event celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games, he didn’t get to see his father due to Charles’ busy schedule. The last time the two met was after Charles’ cancer diagnosis was made public.
There have been talks about whether Harry might bring his family to the UK for a visit. However, reports suggest that Meghan is worried about their children’s safety in Britain.
A source close to the Sussexes shared that Meghan didn’t join Harry on his recent trip to the UK because she didn’t feel safe. They also mentioned that the family’s attendance in the future would depend on whether they receive more security or if Harry decides to travel alone.
Last year, Harry challenged the UK government’s decision to stop providing him with police protection when he visits. After stepping away from royal duties, the UK government decided he would no longer automatically receive this security. Harry even offered to pay for his own security, but his request was denied because British police cannot be privately hired.
In a statement read by his lawyer, Harry expressed his sadness over having to leave the UK with his family in 2020. He said the UK is his home and that it is a key part of his children’s heritage. However, he cannot feel at home in the UK if it’s not safe for him or his family.
Harry explained that he doesn’t want to put Meghan or himself in harm’s way due to the lack of security.
A friend of King Charles claimed that Harry knows how much his father misses his grandchildren and is using this to manipulate him emotionally. According to the friend, Harry is trying to get what he wants—such as security protection—by suggesting that Archie and Lilibet might not get to know their grandfather.
The source added that it’s unrealistic to think the Sussexes would be attacked in the UK without protection and criticized Harry for using the situation as leverage. They pointed out that Charles is dealing with serious health issues, making it hard for him to travel to Los Angeles as easily as Harry can travel to the UK.
The source also raised concerns about how Archie and Lilibet might feel in the future if they are denied a relationship with their grandfather.
Archie and Lilibet also don’t have much of a relationship with their cousins, George, Charlotte, and Louis.
Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams shared his view that the relationship between King Charles and Prince Harry has become even worse, calling it “dreadful.”
He explained that when Harry and Meghan stepped down from their royal roles, they knew they would lose police protection. Harry believes this was a mistake and has taken legal action against the UK government, although experts say he was unlikely to win the case.
Fitzwilliams also commented on Harry’s concerns about safety in the UK, calling them hypocritical when compared to places Harry has visited, such as Nigeria or Colombia, which are considered more dangerous.
Whether Meghan would return to the UK, whether King Charles will get to see his grandchildren again, and how the family’s relationship will evolve remain uncertain, according to the expert.
