Caprio’s family confirmed his passing, remembering him as more than a judge.
“He will be remembered not only as a respected judge, but as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend,” their statement read.

Facing cancer with strength

Caprio revealed in 2023 that he had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Despite undergoing six months of chemotherapy and multiple rounds of radiation—treatments he described as “debilitating”—he remained optimistic.

On his birthday that year, he told followers:
“I know this is a long road, and I’m fully prepared to fight as hard as I can.”

In what would become his last public update, Caprio posted a photo from his hospital bed, smiling with a thumbs-up. The caption expressed gratitude for the outpouring of love he received:
