Kate Middleton recently visited Colchester Hospital in Essex, where she shared honest reflections about her cancer journey. Speaking with patients, she revealed the emotional toll that comes after treatment ends—a phase she described as “really, really difficult.”

“You put on a sort of brave face, stoicism through treatment,” Kate said. “Then it’s like, ‘I can crack on, get back to normal,’ but actually, the phase afterwards is really, really difficult.”

The Princess explained that once treatment ends, you’re often no longer under regular medical supervision but still can’t function like before. “You have to find your new normal and that takes time… and it’s a rollercoaster,” she added.

Finding strength in simplicity

Kate, 42, has slowly returned to public life, making carefully chosen appearances like Trooping the Colour and the Order of the Garter. However, she skipped the Royal Ascot, a major royal event, due to feeling “exhausted,” according to royal expert Neil Sean.

“Princess Catherine has been recuperating behind the scenes,” Sean told Fox News. “She felt it was too much to attend Royal Ascot… This is normal regarding her return after cancer.”

Kate is reportedly finding comfort in daily routines such as ballet classes with Princess Charlotte, nature walks, and playing the piano—activities that bring her peace and joy. She also continues her charity work quietly, staying active with Zoom meetings and reading messages from well-wishers worldwide.

A source told the Daily Mail that Kate is now more selective about the public events she attends. “She’s quite strict now at working out what she needs to be at and what she doesn’t,” they said, emphasizing that she’s still deeply involved in her royal duties behind the scenes.

Kensington Palace has reportedly built more flexibility into her schedule as she continues to prioritize her health and her young family—Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.

Kate’s longtime commitment to her Early Years initiative also remains a central focus. It’s a project she considers a “lifelong” mission, and she’s determined to continue it at her own pace.

Strength in quiet moments

Though much of Kate’s recovery is happening away from the public eye, experts say she’s quietly becoming a symbol of strength and resilience.

“She is living in the moment and has no time for drama… or difficult family members,” Sean said. “It’s the simple things in life that have truly turned her life around.”
