In Hollywood, the allure of alcohol and drugs often becomes a challenging part of life for many celebrities.

Keith Urban, now 54 years old, had a difficult childhood with an alcoholic father. This family history made him more vulnerable to alcoholism himself. “I grew up in an alcoholic house and it took me a long time to believe I was wired the same,” Urban shared with the Sunday Times. His first stint in rehab came in 1998, a step taken to combat his growing addiction issues.

Less than a decade later, Urban’s addiction resurfaced while he was on tour in 2006. He humorously described his relationship with alcohol by saying, “I break out in cuffs.” It was during this challenging time that Nicole Kidman, whom he had married just a year earlier, stepped in to help. Despite their newlywed status, Kidman was determined to support her husband through his struggles.

When Urban found himself in deep trouble, Kidman was away filming a movie. Demonstrating her deep commitment and love, she flew back home, gathered their friends, and organized an intervention. Urban has expressed immense gratitude for Kidman’s actions, recognizing it as a powerful act of love. “She believed in me, and she saw something in me in such a way that she risked everything, everything, to trust me and pull me out of the fire,” Urban said.

Following the intervention, Urban checked into the Betty Ford Center in California in October 2006. By January 2007, he successfully completed his treatment. As a tribute to Kidman’s support, Urban wrote the ballad “Thank You,” expressing his deep gratitude for her.

In 2018, Urban reflected on his journey, wishing he had achieved sobriety earlier but accepting his path. He recognized that addiction had limited his life, saying, “I was enslaved… I was living a very, very small life.”
