Loretta Lynn’s granddaughter Lynn Massey dies at 59 following tough health struggle
Lynn Massey, granddaughter of the country legend Loretta Lynn, passes away after a long battle with health issues
The family of the late country music legend Loretta Lynn is once again facing heartbreak as they announce the passing of her eldest granddaughter, Lynn Massey. Known for her connection to the iconic singer and her own quiet resilience, Lynn Massey was a beloved member of the Lynn family.
Her death last week, after a long battle with health issues, has left the family and fans alike mourning her loss.
Loretta Lynn’s official social media accounts, both on Facebook and Instagram, shared the sad news with followers. The posts mentioned that Lynn Massey, who was 59, had been struggling with her health for some time. The family expressed their gratitude for the love and prayers that have been extended to them during this challenging period.
A photograph accompanied the announcement, showing Lynn smiling warmly in front of a display of her grandmother’s vinyl records. Born just 11 months after Loretta’s youngest children, twins Peggy and Patsy, Lynn held the special distinction of being Loretta’s first grandchild.
The Lynn family representative, Chad Gallagher, confirmed to USA TODAY that Massey passed away on August 20.
Loretta Lynn, a trailblazing figure in country music who began her career in the 1960s, was well-known for her roots in a coal-mining family and her early marriage at just 15 years old. She was already a mother of four when she launched her music career. Loretta passed away peacefully in her home at Hurricane Mills in October 2022 at the age of 90. Her wish was to be buried next to her husband, Oliver “Doolittle” Vanetta.
Lynn Massey is one of Loretta’s 26 grandchildren. Another granddaughter, Emmy Russell, recently captured attention when she made it to the top five on American Idol, performing her grandmother’s famous song “Coal Miner’s Daughter.”
The Lynn family has faced loss before, as Lynn Massey’s mother, Betty Sue, died in 2013 due to complications from emphysema.
Rest in peace, Lynn Massey. The hearts of many are with her family during this time of sorrow.
