Pregnant Massachusetts teen found buried in boyfriend’s backyard after sending final text
Prosecutors say 18-year-old Kylee Monteiro was stabbed and buried by her boyfriend, who later confessed to the killing
Kylee Monteiro, an 18-year-old from Massachusetts who was 11 weeks pregnant, was found buried in her boyfriend’s backyard after sending a final text to her sister accusing him of violence. Prosecutors allege that her boyfriend, 22-year-old Gregory Groom, confessed to stabbing her and hiding her body.
On August 7, Kylee Monteiro sent a chilling text to her sister, Faith, saying she had been attacked.
“He threw me on the ground, and pulled my hair and strangled me,” Kylee wrote, according to court documents cited by the New York Post.
She added: “My phone’s at 4 percent. If I die, it was Greg.”
The next morning, Groom reported her missing to police in Rehoboth, Massachusetts. He claimed they had argued over her living situation and that she had left after the dispute.

Social media silence raised alarm
Kylee’s family grew increasingly worried when she suddenly stopped posting online. She had recently shared her pregnancy news on TikTok and spoke about Groom, calling him someone who treated her well.
Her sister later told reporters, “I know there’s been a lot of speculation of domestic abuse, but that wasn’t the case in their relationship.”
By August 8, police had launched a large-scale search. Groom was arrested that day on charges of assaulting a pregnant woman and witness intimidation.

Confession and discovery
According to prosecutors, when investigators informed Groom that they would be searching his grandparents’ property, he allegedly admitted to killing Kylee.
Prosecutor Jason Mohan said Groom confessed to stabbing Kylee twice in the neck and once in the chest during a fight behind a shed. He then buried her body about five feet underground, concealing the area with brush and cut trees.
Groom even provided investigators with a rough map to the burial site. Search teams later uncovered disturbed soil matching his description.
Despite the alleged confession, Groom pleaded not guilty. He is being held without bail and is due back in court for a probable cause hearing on September 10.

Kylee had just graduated from Attleboro High School this summer and was looking forward to becoming a mother. Friends and family described her as outgoing, kind, and deeply caring.
“She was so loving and so caring, and I love her so much,” said family friend Kira Schofield. “She wanted to be a mother. She was so happy.”
Her sister Faith added, “I lost my sister, and I will never see her again or get the chance to say goodbye or tell her that I love her.”
Bristol County District Attorney Tom Quinn offered condolences, saying, “It’s a very difficult time for them. Extend my sympathies to them and ask them to be patient with the process despite the trauma they are experiencing.”
The town of Rehoboth is coming together to honor Kylee’s memory. A candlelight vigil, called Vigil of Hope for Kylee Monteiro, will be held on Saturday, August 23, at 7 p.m. at Redway Plain and the Veterans Memorial Gazebo.
