Robert Irwin reveals ‘special connection’ he had with late dad Steve—’very lucky I get to follow in those footsteps’

In 2006, Steve Irwin, a famous conservationist and TV host known for his show The Crocodile Hunter, passed away due to a stingray attack.

He was beloved by many, and his family and fans have continued his conservation work at the Australia Zoo to protect the native wildlife that he cared so much about. Steve Irwin’s legacy lives on through the efforts of his family and the people who grew up watching his shows.

Steve Irwin’s children, Bindi and Robert, have followed in their father’s footsteps as conservationists and TV personalities. Even though Steve passed away when they were young, his influence is still strong in them. Robert recently talked about the special bond he has with his late dad and shared how he keeps Steve’s memory alive by doing something every morning.

Over the years, many fans have noticed that Robert looks a lot like his famous father, especially in photos where he’s working with animals at the Australia Zoo. In some instances, Robert has even recreated some of Steve’s most well-known photos, such as holding a koala or feeding a crocodile.

When Steve Irwin passed away, his son Robert was only 2 years old. However, in a recent interview with Adelaide Now, Robert mentioned that he and his father share a love for the ocean. Robert said that he has been passionate about the ocean since he was very young, and his father had a strong connection to it too. He feels most comfortable when he is near the ocean and goes out on the water every morning. Robert also revealed that he uses his dad’s old surfboards, so a part of his father is with him during his ocean activities.

“I feel very lucky I get to follow in those footsteps,” he told Adelaide Now.

Robert mentioned that he and his dad both enjoyed taking pictures. Photography is a meaningful way for Robert to remember his father and honor his memory. Robert frequently shares memories and dedications to his dad on social media, usually accompanied by old family photos. Recently, he posted a photo of his parents in celebration of their 31st wedding anniversary, expressing his love and admiration for his parents and the legacy they have built together.

Despite Steve’s premature death, it’s heartwarming to observe that Robert still maintains a unique bond with his father.
