Texas woman undergoes quadruple amputation after thinking she just had a cold—limbs became ‘mummified’
British influencer Caitlyn Sophie experienced a dramatic turn of events when her health took a sudden and severe downturn in 2022.
Within just two days, she went from feeling completely normal to lying in a hospital bed, placed in a medically induced coma due to life-threatening pneumonia and sepsis.
Caitlyn, who shares her life and health struggles on social media, has always dealt with chronic illnesses like Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, Endometriosis, and Fibromyalgia. But nothing could prepare her for what happened that February.
Just a day before she was hospitalized, Caitlyn enjoyed a normal weekend with her partner and family. “I thought I had a cold,” she recalled. On Sunday, they even went to the cinema. But by Monday, Caitlyn stopped responding to her partner’s messages. Concerned, he called her neighbors and flatmate to check on her.
Her flatmate found Caitlyn unresponsive on her bed and called an ambulance. Paramedics initially thought she had overdosed on her medication, but it turned out to be sepsis and pneumonia. Caitlyn was placed in a medically induced coma, a critical move that allowed doctors to treat her severe infections.
During her two weeks in the coma, Caitlyn experienced vivid and terrifying nightmares. When she finally woke up, she was confused and weak but determined to recover. She had to convince medical staff that she hadn’t tried to harm herself, a challenging process.
Despite the ordeal, Caitlyn has no lasting physical issues from the experience. However, she now sees life differently. “Everything can change so quickly,” she said. “Do whatever you want to do. Like, if you’re sat there thinking about it, there’s clearly a reason you’re thinking about it. So rather than just sit there and think just act on it as fast as you can.”
Caitlyn’s story is a powerful reminder not to take life for granted and to seize every moment.
