A woman named Allison has sparked an online debate after revealing she only showers twice a week, a routine shared by some celebrities like Jake Gyllenhaal, Taylor Swift, Ashton Kutcher, and Mila Kunis who have similarly unconventional bathing habits.
Gyllenhaal has mentioned he finds frequent washing unnecessary, Swift admits she doesn’t wash her legs often, and Kutcher along with Kunis only shower when they feel dirty.
Allison’s confession on TikTok has received mixed reactions. Some viewers were shocked, suggesting she should at least wear a shower cap, while others refused to get into bed without taking a shower first. One comment read, “I get not showering for one or two days but a whole week? There’s no way.”
However, many supported her, relating to her view that showering can be exhausting and agreeing that daily showers aren’t essential for everyone. “Showering feels like such a chore,” one user agreed.
In her video, Allison explained her logic: “If I’m getting in the shower, I’m going to wash my hair. Why would I get in the shower and not wash my hair? But I don’t want to wash my hair every day. So I’ve had to start saying that I wash my hair twice a week.”
She added, humorously discovering her outlier status, “So I’ve recently found out that I am in fact a gross human being. This is because most girls when they say that they wash their hair twice a week they literally mean wash their hair – and they shower every day. I only shower once or twice a week. I’ve gone five days without showering before.”
Allison’s followers have largely affirmed that her habits are more common than people might think, which she reiterated in a follow-up video. She also noted the practicality of her routine, “I’m sure there are people who don’t shower and smell, but I don’t smell and I don’t need to wash my hair, so why would I shower?”
Taking her audience’s advice, Allison has since purchased a shower cap to use on non-showering days. This addition to her routine shows she’s considering feedback while sticking to her personal hygiene choices.
