The Los Angeles wildfires have left destruction in their wake, displacing thousands and deeply impacting actress Jamie Lee Curtis, 66, who revealed her heartbreak during an emotional appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
Curtis shared how the flames came dangerously close to her Pacific Palisades home, forcing her to grapple with the devastating reality faced by her community. Though her house was spared, many of her neighbors lost everything.

“I’m literally just about to cry,” Curtis admitted, visibly moved by the audience’s warm welcome. Fighting back tears, she said, “As you know, where I live is on fire right now. Literally, the entire city of the Pacific Palisades is burning.”
The actress explained how she learned about the fire’s proximity while on a flight to New York City. “I started getting texts, and it’s f***ing gnarly, you guys. It’s just a catastrophe in Southern California,” she said.
She also spoke about the heartbreak of seeing her community suffer: “This is literally where I live. Everything. The market I shop in. The schools my kids go to. Friends—many, many friends have lost their homes.”
A heartfelt plea for help
During the interview, Curtis made an emotional plea to the audience and viewers at home. She urged them to support wildfire relief efforts, highlighting organizations like the American Red Cross.
“If you know anybody on the West Coast or not, the American Red Cross… they will come in and help people. Do anything you can—give blood, donate, whatever,” she said.
As an ambassador for the Red Cross, Curtis also emphasized the importance of emergency preparedness. She encouraged people to have a kit ready with essentials like prescription glasses, medications, pet supplies, and baby formula in case they ever need to evacuate quickly.
Sharing personal loss
The actress later took to Instagram to express her sorrow over the destruction of a beloved church in her community. Sharing a photo of the charred remains, Curtis wrote, “This is the church in the Palisades that had a beautiful Sunday school and school and was a gorgeous house of worship… the building that I got sober in 25 years ago.”
Reflecting on its significance, she added, “I think of all the souls who came there for comfort and solace… and the thousands of people who reclaimed their lives through sobriety.”
Returning to support her community
Curtis, who shares two daughters, Ruby (25) and Annie (34), with husband Christopher Guest, vowed to return to Los Angeles to support her family and friends. “I am going home tomorrow to be with my family and try to help my friends,” she said.
The wildfires, fueled by dry conditions and powerful winds, have already claimed at least five lives, destroyed over 2,000 structures, and left countless residents displaced. Emergency responders are working tirelessly to contain the flames and prevent further devastation.
Curtis’s emotional plea serves as a reminder of the importance of community during times of crisis and the urgent need to support those affected.
