However, Kekoa, a large grey wolf seen walking with a woman named Danielle, challenges this common stereotype. Kekoa’s name, which means “brave one” in Hawaiian, is fitting because she seems to exhibit a sense of bravery and respect toward humans.
Despite her size and strength, Kekoa appears to have a gentle nature around people, especially Danielle. She is not like other wolves who may act aggressively towards humans but instead demands a certain level of respect while also showing respect towards others.
Kekoa lives at the Colorado Wolf and Wildlife Center, an animal sanctuary near Colorado Springs. The sanctuary provides a safe home for animals who cannot survive in the wild. Kekoa is one of many animals who have found refuge there.
Despite her size and strength, Kekoa has developed an incredible friendship with a staff member named Danielle. When they play together, it’s a magical and surreal sight. Danielle is much smaller than Kekoa, so it’s impressive to see the two of them interacting so comfortably.
Although Kekoa looks brave and noble, she also has a gentle side. When she stands on her hind legs and places her front paws on a person’s shoulders, she measures about 7 feet tall and weighs 115 pounds. Seeing Kekoa and Danielle’s friendship is a heartwarming reminder of the bonds that can form between animals and humans.
Sakura, another wolf who was raised by humans and bottle-fed from birth, has become very comfortable around people and wants to cuddle with them. Despite his socialization, he still exhibits wild behavior around other animals, especially his sister. According to Michelle Smith, a staffer at the wildlife center where Sakura lives, he is not domesticated or tame but enjoys human companionship.
Although Sakura’s behavior is not typical of wild wolves, it is not uncommon for animals raised by humans to become comfortable around people. However, it is important to remember that wild animals are still wild and should not be treated as pets. While Sakura may enjoy human company, it is essential to respect his wild nature and provide him with the care and environment he needs to thrive.
“Since he was raised by people and bottle fed from the time he was born, he is very well socialized, meaning he enjoys the company of people. This is not the same as domesticated or tame. He is still a ‘wild’ animal, and he does tend to show it when he is around his sister. A wolf in the wild would not act this way.”
