A fearless feline defends its dog friend from coyotes in an amazing act of heroism
In a surprising and heartwarming act of bravery, a pet cat named Binx took on two coyotes to save her doggy friend, Oakley, in a tense backyard encounter. This remarkable event happened in Edmond, Oklahoma, leaving pet owners everywhere amazed at the strong bonds pets can form and the lengths they’ll go to protect each other.
Pets often bring joy and comfort to their families, but sometimes, they reveal an even deeper loyalty in the most unexpected ways.
Heroic Rescue in the Backyard
It all started when Lane Dyer let his six-year-old Havanese dog, Oakley, out into the backyard for a quick bathroom break. Out of nowhere, a wild coyote entered the yard and attacked Oakley. The situation quickly turned dire as a second coyote joined in, seemingly sealing Oakley’s fate.
Just when hope was running out, Binx, a black cat who had come to the Dyer family as a stray, charged toward the coyotes. Binx’s sudden appearance and fierce attitude spooked the coyotes, who then ran off, leaving Oakley behind.

Oakley didn’t escape unscathed—she had deep wounds and was bleeding heavily. The Dyers acted quickly, rushing Oakley to a veterinary hospital. There, the vets initially feared they might need to amputate Oakley’s injured leg. However, thanks to swift care, Oakley’s leg was saved, and her path to a full recovery began.
Captured on Camera
When Lane Dyer reviewed the security footage, he was stunned. Watching Binx leap into action against two coyotes was an unforgettable moment. Lane described it as “the craziest thing ever” and felt immense pride in his courageous cat.
“It was inspiring to see just our little outdoor cat just jump at two coyotes that were attacking this little dog who she loves and run them off,” he said. For many, this moment underscored how powerful the bond can be between animals, even those typically thought to be “opposites” like cats and dogs.
Oakley is now healing, and Binx is celebrated as the unlikely hero of the household. The story of Binx and Oakley has since resonated with people far beyond Edmond, as it showcases just how strong the love between pets can be.
