Missouri community mourns tragic crash that claimed four lives, including three young graduates
A devastating accident leaves Climax Springs grieving as loved ones remember the bright futures lost
A heartbreaking tragedy has shaken the Climax Springs School District and the Missouri community after a violent crash on Friday evening, February 21, claimed four lives. Among the victims were three young graduates who had just watched their former school’s basketball game.
The crash occurred around 8 p.m. on U.S. Highway 54 in western Missouri. According to authorities, a 49-year-old man driving a 2025 Toyota Corolla ran a stop sign and was struck by an eastbound GMC Terrain. The impact was catastrophic, sending the Corolla off the road, where it crashed into a fence and a tree.
The 38-year-old driver of the GMC Terrain died at the scene. Tragically, the three young passengers in the Corolla—Ava Wolfe, Jayden Butterfield, and Violet Corado—also lost their lives. All three were recent graduates of Climax Springs School District.
The loss has devastated the small community, with friends, family, and school officials mourning the young lives taken too soon.

Remembering the victims
The Climax Springs School District honored Ava, Jayden, and Violet in a heartfelt Facebook post, calling them cherished members of their school community.
“Ava and Jayden were both beloved employees of the district, who dedicated their time and talent to our students each day,” the post read. “As students, all of these individuals left a legacy within our school.”
The district has arranged for grief counselors to be available for students and staff as they process the immense loss.
Violet Corado had dreams of becoming a high school English teacher, as noted in a senior spotlight shared last May. Ava Wolfe had just purchased a Ford Bronco the day before the accident, and the dealership she visited shared their heartbreak.
“Just yesterday, Ava was here, filled with joy and excitement as she drove home in her Bronco,” the dealership, Maples Ford, wrote in a tribute. “To now be facing this heartbreaking loss is truly unimaginable.”
Jayden Butterfield’s mother, Ashley, shared an emotional reflection on Facebook, recalling the countless hours spent supporting her daughter’s basketball journey.
“Watching these girls grow up, do what they love, laughing and cheering each other through tough games and always lifting each other up has come to an end,” she wrote. “Jayden, you are one hell of an athlete, and I’m so lucky I’ve been fortunate enough to follow you around all these years.”
Community support and safety concerns
In the wake of the tragedy, a GoFundMe fundraiser has been launched to support the families of the victims. The campaign, started by LaRessa LyVonne Cline, highlights the deep sorrow the community is experiencing.
“These beautiful souls were part of three different families and have left the community devastated,” the fundraiser states. “In times like these, there aren’t enough prayers, love, or tears that could even touch the hurt or heal the hearts of a small town.”
Beyond the grief, the crash has also raised concerns about road safety and seatbelt use. Authorities reported that only four out of the ten people involved in the crash were wearing seatbelts. The impact of this statistic has sparked discussions on seatbelt awareness and the importance of safe driving habits.
A community in mourning
As Climax Springs grieves, the memories of Ava, Jayden, and Violet live on through the love and stories shared by those who knew them. Their bright futures were cut short, but their impact on their school and community will never be forgotten.
Our deepest condolences go out to their families and everyone affected by this heartbreaking tragedy. May they all rest in peace. ❤️
