Prince William reportedly had concerns over Meghan Markle’s wedding outfit

Prince William was reportedly concerned that Meghan Markle would wear Princess Diana’s jewelry on her wedding day and sought assurances from Queen Elizabeth II to prevent it, according to a new book.

A complicated royal relationship

Prince William and Prince Harry were once incredibly close, but their bond has weakened over the years, especially after Harry’s marriage to Meghan Markle in 2018. Tensions within the royal family have been widely reported, with disagreements over Meghan’s treatment, the speed of their relationship, and their eventual exit from royal duties.

Now, a new claim suggests that even before the wedding, William had reservations—not about the marriage itself, but about Meghan wearing a piece of jewelry that once belonged to their late mother, Princess Diana.

Prince William’s alleged request to the Queen

In his book Catherine, The Princess of Wales: The Biography, royal author Robert Jobson claims that William was uneasy about Meghan wearing Diana’s jewelry on her wedding day. According to Jobson, the future king was so concerned that he reportedly sought reassurance from Queen Elizabeth II that Meghan wouldn’t be allowed to wear any of their mother’s pieces.

“I have been told that, still concerned about the match, he’d sought assurances from the Queen that Harry’s bride would not be wearing any of Princess Diana’s jewelry, even though his own wife was allowed to wear it,” Jobson wrote, as reported by The Mirror.

This claim adds another layer to the already strained relationship between the brothers. William’s wife, Kate Middleton, has worn Diana’s jewelry on multiple occasions, including her iconic sapphire engagement ring, which originally belonged to the late princess.

The wedding day tensions

Despite any behind-the-scenes concerns, Harry and Meghan’s wedding at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor was a grand affair. However, it wasn’t without its challenges. Meghan’s father, Thomas Markle, made headlines just days before the ceremony when it was revealed that he had staged paparazzi photos. He later backed out of attending due to health issues, leading to then-Prince Charles stepping in to walk Meghan down the aisle.

Interestingly, Meghan made a bold decision about her entrance. According to biographer Robert Hardman, when Charles offered to escort her the entire way, she asked if they could meet halfway, signaling her independence and confidence.

A relationship beyond repair?

Since their wedding, Meghan and Harry’s relationship with the royal family has only become more complicated. Their departure from royal duties in 2020, followed by their explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021, deepened the divide.

The latest reports suggest the tension continues. William and Kate have reportedly been making moves to establish their Royal Foundation charity in the United States, a move that has allegedly left Meghan feeling uneasy.

“Meghan was quite shocked when she found out that Kate and William plan to do more work in America after trademarking their foundation’s brand with authorities,” a source told OK! magazine.

The source added that Meghan sees this as “another blow,” especially as she and Harry try to solidify their place in the U.S.

The rift between William and Harry seems wider than ever, with no public signs of reconciliation. Many royal watchers wonder if the brothers will ever repair their bond, or if their paths have permanently diverged.
