Will Smith reveals he is “embarrassed and hurt” by Chris Rock’s new show

A year ago, during the 2022 Oscars, Will Smith surprised everyone by hitting Chris Rock after he joked about Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, and her hair condition called alopecia. This event is still remembered as one of the most shocking in awards show history.

Recently, Chris Rock released a Netflix show where he talked about the incident, Will Smith, and his wife. It seems like Rock is not willing to let the issue go. On the other hand, Smith reportedly felt embarrassed and hurt by the whole situation.

It’s been a whole year since the 2022 Oscars incident took place. Will Smith, who won the “Best Actor” award for his role in King Richard, became infamous for his actions that night, angering fellow attendees and TV viewers globally.

The 54-year-old actor was banned from the Academy Awards for 10 years and spent much of the past year apologizing for his conduct.

Meanwhile, Chris Rock waited patiently before responding. The well-known comedian released his new Netflix show, called Chris Rock: Selective Outrage, just a week before this year’s Oscars. He did not hesitate to address the Will Smith issue in his special.

“You all know what happened to me, getting smacked by Suge Smith. Everybody knows,” Rock said. “It still hurts. I got ‘Summertime’ ringing in my ears.”

He continued: “We are not the same size. This guy does movies with his shirt off. You will never see me do a movie with my shirt off. If I’m in a movie getting open-heart surgery, I got on a sweater.

“He played Muhammed Ali. I played Pookie in ‘New Jack City.’”

Rock mentioned Smith’s spouse, Jada Pinkett Smith, alluding to her past confession about being involved with another man while married, which she called an “entanglement.” Rock claimed he was not involved in any entanglements and that Jada hurt Smith more than he ever did.

He ended his statement by expressing his love for Will Smith, saying he now watches the film ‘Emancipation’ just to see Smith being defeated.

As per Entertainment Tonight, Smith has been deeply hurt and embarrassed by Rock’s comments in his Netflix special. Although Smith hasn’t seen it himself, he’s been informed about its content by others. The Daily Mail reports that Rock might have been willing to forget the notorious slap if he had received a sincere, personal apology. “Chris never got a one-on-one private apology from Will, only the public one which really meant nothing,” a source close to Chris Rock told the Daily Mail.

In the Will Smith-Chris Rock incident, opinions vary on whether Chris Rock’s jokes were too much or if Will Smith’s reaction was justified. Some people believe that Chris Rock may have crossed a line with his humor, while others think Will Smith overreacted by physically confronting him. It’s important to consider different perspectives and understand that reactions to situations like this can be subjective.
