Most of us are blessed to have both of our parents alive and interact with them on a daily basis, however, some have never seen their biological parents, and they feel sad about it. Some people set out to look for their parents and trace their roots. Everyone needs an identity.
The former US president Barack Obama’s identity story can tell how much people want to identify with their origin.
Here is a story of a man who had lived with a family that adopted him for years but by God’s grace he met his real family after 20 years.
Iverson Poff, 20, was adopted at birth and raised by his adoptive parents, but he had always been curious about his biological family.
An adoption agency gave Iverson, who grew up in Portland, Oregon, some baby pictures. However, it was a closed adoption, which means that the adoptive and biological families have no contact, and the adoption agency used had long since closed its doors.
However, on July 20th, he received an Instagram message from a man named Jalen Vickers, who claimed to be his older brother.
“I have that date tattooed on my arm because it was so significant to me,” Poff explained. “I opened the message immediately and knew who it was right away.” “I had a feeling.”
Vickers explained that Iverson was easily found because of his unique first name, which his mother remembered.
Iverson was on a plane to Salt Lake City 16 hours after receiving the message, where his mother and three biological siblings awaited him.
He described meeting the family he thought he’d never meet as the “most euphoric moment” of his life, and he’s now planning to relocate to Utah to be closer to them.
“It was like seeing angels when I first met my family.” “It was insane—I can’t even explain it,” he recalled. “I was actually in the process of doing DNA tests to try to find them on Ancestry, but they caught up with me before I could finish.”
Poff was aware that he had two biological siblings, but the third was born after adoption agency photos. He discovered he not only had an older brother, but also two younger sisters, ages 18 and 13.
He called the encounter “surreal” and “breathtaking.”
Danielle Zimmerman, his mother, informed him that she was unable to support him at the time she became pregnant.
She had flown from her home in Florida to Utah at the time to give birth to Iverson so that his adoptive family could take him in immediately.

“We talked about it and decided not to dwell on the past,” Poff said of his own origin story. “Why would I do that when I have so much to focus on in the present and the future?”
He ended up staying in Utah for three weeks, during which he was able to engage in “normal family activities.”
“It felt like the void in my head was filled when I met them,” he said. “It’s as if I’d been missing puzzle pieces that I’ve now found.” It’s incredible.” I need to remember to be grateful. “I’ve been extremely lucky.”
