Melania Trump prioritizes son Barron over White House duties

The former First Lady will reportedly split her time between New York and Washington

Melania Trump has always put her son, Barron, first, and that won’t change when she returns to the White House as First Lady. Reports suggest that she will spend most of her time in New York to support Barron as he begins his college journey at NYU’s Stern School of Business.

Ever since Barron was a child, Melania Trump has shielded him from public scrutiny. As Donald Trump prepares to begin his second term as the 47th President of the United States, sources say Melania will not be a full-time presence at the White House. Instead, she will reportedly reside at Trump Tower in New York to remain close to Barron, while also making visits to Mar-a-Lago in Florida.

A source told People Magazine that Melania has always been “very protective” of her only son and will continue to prioritize his well-being.

“She is a doting mother to Barron and very protective of him. This is nothing new,” the source said.

Barron Trump’s life as a college student

At 18, Barron Trump has embarked on his college journey at NYU, where he remains under Secret Service protection. Unlike most freshmen, Barron will not be living in a dormitory. Instead, he will stay at Trump Tower, ensuring a more private and secure lifestyle.

“Living in a dorm in a college town isn’t in the stars for him at this point,” a source told People Magazine, adding that Melania wants to keep a close eye on him.

Melania’s concerns go beyond academics. With Donald Trump’s return to the White House, she is reportedly worried about the negativity surrounding politics and how it might affect Barron.

“She worries about the hate in the country and how it falls on her son, who is innocent of any of this,” another source told People Magazine. “She tries to normalize his life, if that is even possible.”

Mixed reactions from Barron’s classmates

Barron’s presence at NYU has sparked various reactions among students. Some are indifferent, while others speculate about how his political background might influence his college experience.

One student told the Daily Mail, “He’s going to NYU, so if he is at all interested in girls, he’s going to become kind of liberal, I’ll tell you that.”

Another student joked, “My mom is going to want me to marry him.”

However, not everyone is eager to befriend the President’s son. One student expressed frustration, saying, “It speaks to the privilege that a lot of NYU kids have. I’m only here because of financial aid.”

Melania’s fierce protection of Barron

Throughout Donald Trump’s political career, Melania has fiercely protected Barron from media attention. According to former Republican mayor Robert Paulson, she was ready to “chop off anyone at the knees” who targeted her son.

“Donald Trump’s adult children Don Jr., Eric, and Ivanka proved fair game, with the media considering that they had injected themselves into their father’s administration,” Paulson wrote in Cleveland.com. “However, their stepmother, Melania Trump, was prepared to chop off anyone at the knees who went after her then 8-year-old son Barron.”

Barron Trump’s surprising transformation

Despite being largely absent from the public eye, Barron recently made headlines when his voice was heard in a viral video. In a clip where he greeted UFC President Dana White, fans were surprised to hear that his Slovenian accent had completely disappeared.

“Barron has his dad’s speech cadence!” one X (formerly Twitter) user commented. Another noted, “Sounds like Timothée Chalamet.”

Will Melania redefine the role of First Lady?

Unlike previous First Ladies, Melania has chosen not to use her platform to advocate for policies or build a lasting public brand. Author and former CNN correspondent Kate Bennett noted that while most First Ladies continue their initiatives after leaving office, Melania has not followed that path.

“The missed opportunity of this period between her tenure in the White House has been the lack of a continuing platform or policy agenda that most First Ladies build on,” Bennett said.

While Melania has appointed Hayley Harrison as her Chief of Staff, it remains unclear how active she will be in the White House this time around. As she told Fox News in October, she is more experienced now and knows what to expect.

With Barron beginning his new chapter in New York, it appears Melania’s main priority will remain the same—protecting and supporting her son.
