Prince Harry and Meghan may move back to the UK

The royal couple is reportedly exploring a return to Britain after years of living in the U.S.

Prince Harry’s US residency is under renewed threat as a legal battle over his visa records continues. A conservative think tank has challenged the legality of his immigration status, citing his past drug use, while former President Donald Trump has suggested he would not protect the prince from deportation. Amid the uncertainty, speculation grows about whether Harry and Meghan Markle could return to the UK.

Prince Harry has faced intense scrutiny over his past drug use since releasing his 2023 memoir, Spare. In the book, he openly admitted to experimenting with cocaine, marijuana, and psychedelics. However, this has led to questions about whether he was truthful when applying for his US visa, as applicants are typically asked to disclose past drug use.

In 2024, the conservative think tank The Heritage Foundation sued the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to access Harry’s immigration records. Their argument? If Harry admitted drug use on his application, he may have received special treatment. If he failed to disclose it, he could have lied under oath, which is grounds for deportation.

Initially, a judge ruled that the prince’s records should remain private, but in January 2025, the case was reopened, with a hearing scheduled for February 5.

Donald Trump’s stance – Would he push for deportation?

Former President Donald Trump, who has clashed with Harry and Meghan in the past, has taken a firm stance on the issue. In 2023, he suggested that if the Duke of Sussex lied on his visa application, he could be deported.

“We’ll have to see if they know something about the drugs, and if he lied, they’ll have to take appropriate action,” Trump told GB News.

When asked directly whether he would protect Harry from deportation, Trump was clear:

“I wouldn’t protect him. He betrayed the Queen. That’s unforgivable. He would be on his own if it was down to me,” he told The Express.

With Trump now back in the White House, some royal experts believe Harry and Meghan should be worried. Royal commentator Hugo Vickers told The Sun that Trump’s unpredictable nature could mean he takes action against the prince.

“I wouldn’t be at all surprised if he suddenly said, ‘Right, I’m sending Prince Harry out of this country,’” Vickers said. “He doesn’t really abide by the rules… He would stump the table and tell somebody to look into how you do these things and just fix it.”

Is a UK return possible for Harry and Meghan?

While Harry is reportedly focused on maintaining his life in the US, the uncertainty surrounding his visa has sparked rumors of a possible return to the UK. Royal experts suggest the prince may be having second thoughts about his decision to leave his home country.

Speaking on The Sun’s Royal Exclusive Show, royal correspondent Bronte Coy said:

“A lot of things have changed in the past five years. It’s entirely possible that, with some reflection, there’s a big part of him wondering if there’s a way to bring the UK back into his life.”

She added that Harry may want his children to have a stronger connection to Britain.

“He wants to ensure the safety of himself and his family while in the UK so his children can know his home country and so he can help his patronages and their important work.”

What’s next for Harry and Meghan?

Despite the rumors, many believe Harry and Meghan are committed to staying in California. Royal expert Jennie Bond told The Mirror that Harry is determined to make the US his permanent home.

“I still think that Harry is intent on carving out a future for himself and his family in California. Once you have children and they start school, the roots that you have established grow far more quickly,” Bond explained.

However, she acknowledged that uncertainty remains, especially with Trump back in office.

“It must be rather awkward having a President of the United States whom Meghan has openly criticized and who has the power to throw Harry out of the country if his visa application was proved to be fraudulent.”

With his visa status in question and an unpredictable political landscape ahead, Prince Harry’s future in the US is far from secure. If legal challenges continue, or if Trump applies pressure, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex may have to reconsider their options.
