Many people face challenges with their appearance and weight despite growing acceptance in society. Annie Windley from Derbyshire, England, who once battled with an eating disorder, is now sharing her journey to recovery to support and inspire others facing similar struggles.

Annie Windley from Woolley Moor once weighed only 29kg (about 63 pounds), putting her at serious risk of heart issues and other health problems. The 21-year-old has fought her eating disorder for five years, leading to several hospital stays and medical treatments.

Annie Windley found solace in running, which played a crucial role in her recovery journey. She even finished the Chesterfield Half Marathon last October. Sharing her thoughts on social media, she said, “I came to the delightful realization that rehabilitation is a breathtaking process that should be thrilling, unforgettable, and amazing. I believe that my anorexia will always be a part of me, but I’ve learned to control it and stop thinking about food.”

Annie Windley believes that it’s never too late to change for the better. Diagnosed in 2012, she started her recovery journey two years later, but it wasn’t until October 2017 that she genuinely committed to combating her eating disorder.

Sharing her experience, she stated, “I can’t say exactly what occurred, but this time, it was just for myself.”  She described the process as challenging yet marked by immense courage. She added, “I’ve put on three stones in the last four months, and I’m now at my heaviest since 2014.”

Annie Windley emphasizes that how people treat themselves and others is more important than physical appearance. She believes, “These are the things that will make you happy and are things that are crucial to you.”

Annie Windley credits her recovery to her passion for running and the respect she learned to show herself and others. By channeling the energy she once used on limiting her food into running, she experienced a complete shift in mindset. She advises, “Pay attention to your enthusiasm and drive to succeed where you wish to go.”

Before, Annie often survived on just a slice of bread daily, leading to her frequently feeling faint or even collapsing. Today, she’s not only gaining weight but also cultivating a healthier perspective on her body. She emphasizes, “We must show our disorders that we are able to do so.
