Country music star Alan Jackson shares major life update—‘blessings overflowing’
Country music legend Alan Jackson is saying goodbye to the stage, announcing his retirement to spend more time with his loved ones. This decision comes at a heartwarming time for the Jackson family, as they welcomed a new grandchild just last week.
Jackson’s daughter, Mattie Jackson, shared the joyous news on Instagram. “One week ago, my life was forever changed,” she wrote. “Wesley Alan Smith joined our little family on June 20th, the absolute best birthday gift I could have ever imagined.”
Mattie expressed her gratitude for becoming a mother, saying, “There is no greater honor in life than being chosen by God to be your mom. And no sweeter joy than watching your daddy adore you and protect you already.”
Alan Jackson had previously shared his excitement about the new addition to the family on social media. “Blessings overflowing in our growing family!” he wrote. “Denise and I are thrilled for our second grandson to arrive in June! We’re so happy for proud parents Mattie and Connor Smith and can’t wait to meet the next addition to our family.”
Reflecting on his decision to retire, the 65-year-old musician opened up about his career and personal life in a recent video. “I’ve been touring for over 30 years, played everywhere in the country and parts of the world,” Jackson said. “I’ve had a wonderful career, and now all my daughters are grown, and I’ve got two grandkids. I enjoy spending more time at home and don’t want to be away like I had to be in my younger days.”
The “Last Call: One More for the Road” tour will kick off on August 2, featuring 10 dates through May 17, 2025. Jackson, who has been diagnosed with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, a condition that affects his balance and mobility, explained how this has also influenced his decision. “Most of my fans know I have a degenerative health condition that affects my legs and arms. It’s getting worse, and it makes me more uncomfortable on stage,” he said. “I just want to think about maybe calling it quits before I’m unable to do the job like I want to.”
As Alan Jackson prepares for his farewell tour, he looks forward to cherishing moments with his family and focusing on his health. This new chapter is filled with love and gratitude, highlighting the importance of family in his life.
