Father of two showered with praise after saving an elderly woman from embarrassment
If your card has ever been declined while making a purchase, then you definitely understand how frustrating and embarrassing it can be.
One man was kind enough to step in and help an elderly woman from being embarrassed after her card was declined repeatedly while paying for her shopping.
34-year-old Ryan O’Donnell had gone shopping at Coles supermarket together with his two children. After they picked up what they needed, they approached the register. O’Donnell noticed an elderly woman was holding up the line in front of him.
Instead of growing restless, O’Donnell made his way closer to the woman and noticed her card had been declined repeatedly. ‘[The cashier] was trying to tell her to try different account and it didn’t work, so they took her to the front area and I walked past and overheard,’ he said.
O’Donnell immediately knew he had to do something to help the woman. He reached out to his wallet and handed the older woman $50 to pay her bill. Luckily, a Twitter user captured the heartwarming moment and shared the photo online.
The woman could not hide her happiness. She turned to O’Donnell and thanked him for his kind gesture. She even asked O’Donnell if he could accept repayment, but he politely declined.
When the story was shared online, it immediately went viral and received a lot of praise. O’Donnell was contacted by a local news station and asked what had inspired him to pay for the older woman’s shopping.

He said: “Realistically it was just because the lady reminded me of my mum and grandma and that’s how my mum and dad brought me up,” he said.’If you can help, you do it where and when to the best of your ability.’
This father of two was truly brought up well, and his children are blessed to have him. Imagine what this world would be like if we all had a heart like O’Donnell’s.
