Carl Dean, husband of country legend Dolly Parton, passes away at 82

Parton pays heartfelt tribute to her lifelong love

Carl Dean, businessman and devoted husband of country music icon Dolly Parton, has passed away at the age of 82. Dean passed away in his hometown of Nashville, Tennessee, on March 3, as confirmed by reports. Parton, 78, shared an emotional statement, saying, “Words can’t do justice to the love we shared for over 60 years.”

Dean and Parton’s love story began in 1964 when they met outside the Wishy Washy Laundromat in Nashville. At the time, Parton was just 18, and Dean was 21. Sparks flew instantly, leading to their wedding on May 30, 1966. Their marriage, which lasted nearly six decades, was a testament to their unwavering commitment to each other.

In 2016, to celebrate their 50th anniversary, the couple renewed their wedding vows in a private ceremony.

Despite Parton’s global fame, Dean preferred a life away from the spotlight. In a 2023 interview on the Dumb Blonde podcast, Parton shared how her husband was always supportive of her music career but made it clear he wanted no part in public events.

“He said, ‘Look, now I want you to do everything you want to do, and I wish you the best, but don’t ever ask me to go to another one of these damn things because I ain’t going,’ and he never did,” she recalled with a laugh.

A private farewell

Following the announcement of Dean’s passing, his family has requested privacy during this difficult time. Reports indicate that he will be laid to rest in a private ceremony attended by close family members.

Although Dean and Parton never had children, their bond was legendary. While Parton traveled the world, Dean remained her steady, behind-the-scenes supporter, running a successful road-paving business in Nashville.
