Kid Rock took center stage during a politically charged halftime show on Super Bowl Sunday—but viewers quickly turned on him, accusing the rocker of lip-syncing and doing little else during his short performance.

While the NFL’s official halftime spotlight at Super Bowl Sunday went to global star Bad Bunny, a rival performance was being streamed live online. Backed by conservative group Turning Point USA, the All-American Halftime Show featured country stars like Brantley Gilbert, Lee Brice, and Gabby Barrett—and closed with 55-year-old Kid Rock.

The event was promoted as a patriotic and cultural alternative to the flashy, mainstream NFL production. But many who tuned in to support it said they were disappointed the moment Kid Rock stepped on stage.

Within seconds of his performance, fans flooded social media with complaints. Many pointed out what they believed was clear lip-syncing, as his mouth movements didn’t match the audio and the mic kept dropping—yet his voice kept playing.

“Did Kid Rock do like a minute of lip sync and dip, LOL?” one viewer joked. Another added, “It was a**. Kid Rock came out for 45 seconds to lip sync and drop the mic five times while he was still ‘singing.’”

The set was short, and viewers expected more energy from the rocker famous for hits like Bawitdaba. Instead, some said he appeared to do “a funny dance,” fiddle with his fedora, and then vanish.

Adding to the heat, some viewers brought up past lyrics and public comments by Kid Rock. A line from his 2001 song Cool, Daddy Cool—“Young ladies, young ladies, I like ’em underage”—resurfaced and was widely criticized.

Clips from his 2001 Saturday Night Live appearance also began making the rounds, where he made uncomfortable jokes about the then-14-year-old Olsen twins. Many found the resurfaced content deeply disturbing.

“SO gross!” one person posted. “He is a disgusting human being. It’s no wonder the MAGA base loves him,” wrote another.

Despite the controversy, some fans defended the performance. Supporters praised him for performing Bawitdaba and called the moment “awesome” and “historic.”

“TPUSA halftime performance was worth it. History was made tonight, my friends,” one fan wrote.

Turning Point USA’s livestream peaked at around 5 million viewers, though numbers reportedly dipped during Kid Rock’s set. As of now, the performance has over 18 million views on YouTube.

Whether people loved it or hated it, Kid Rock’s halftime appearance sparked conversation—not just about music and performance quality, but also about past behaviors, public accountability, and the growing divide in entertainment preferences during major national events.

As one viewer summed it up: “It was supposed to be a patriotic moment… but it just made me cringe.”

What did you think of Kid Rock’s halftime performance? Was it bold or just bad?
