Prince William reportedly avoiding visits with Kate’s parents

Royal sources claim William has been coming up with reasons to skip time with the Middletons.

Prince William and Kate Middleton’s love story began at St. Andrew’s University, blossoming from friendship into a royal romance. Over the years, William has grown close to Kate’s family, but a new report hints at playful tension during their famously competitive family game nights.

The early days of love and family ties

Prince William and Kate Middleton’s journey started over two decades ago at St. Andrew’s University in Scotland. Though their relationship had its ups and downs — including a brief split in 2007 — they’ve been each other’s pillar of strength. Alongside their growing love, William also developed a bond with Kate’s parents, Michael and Carole Middleton, and her siblings, Pippa and James.

For Kate, entering the royal fold was daunting, with strict protocols and media scrutiny. But for William, meeting the Middletons offered something refreshingly different: warmth and family closeness, which he deeply appreciated, especially after losing his mother, Princess Diana.

Royal commentator Angela Levin noted, “She made him feel secure, comfortable and protected and he didn’t have to worry about what he said or be responsible for her emotions.”

A supportive in-law relationship

The Middletons became an integral part of William’s life, supporting him and Kate through major milestones, including their 2011 wedding and the birth of their three children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. Carole and Michael Middleton frequently hosted family gatherings and cherished their role as doting grandparents.

“They’ll have rallied around her, especially her young family. Carole and Michael will have essentially thrown a safety blanket around the young children to help protect them, ” said royal biographer Duncan Larcombe. “William is very much like the adopted son.”

A playful rivalry: the game-night drama

Despite the close relationship, recent reports suggest William has occasionally avoided certain family traditions — specifically, the Middletons’ competitive game nights. According to royal author Christopher Andersen, William steers clear of these intense evenings because of how seriously Kate’s family takes winning.

“William and Kate’s card games are so heated and all-consuming that William makes excuses to avoid being sucked in, ” Andersen shared. Kate’s brother, James Middleton, echoed this sentiment, revealing on The Dog Podcast how William might conveniently volunteer to walk the dog during the peak of game night drama.

Even with lighthearted family clashes, William’s respect for the Middletons remains steadfast. In fact, during King Charles’ coronation in 2023, William personally insisted that Kate’s family be included, ensuring they played a significant role in the historic event.

The playful tension during game nights reflects the broader dynamic between William and the Middletons — a mix of humor, love, and support. It’s clear that the future king values his in-laws and the sense of normalcy they bring to his life.

As William and Kate continue to navigate their royal responsibilities, the Middletons remain a cherished part of their journey, offering both support and a bit of healthy competition.
