Queen Camilla shares important health update after chest infection
The Queen reveals how she's feeling after battling a chest infection, reassuring fans with her recovery news
Queen Camilla, 77, continues to battle a stubborn chest infection that has forced her to step back from several royal engagements this November, including the high-profile Royal Film Performance of Gladiator II.
After making a partial return to public duties by hosting the Booker Prize ceremony on November 12, the queen consort has had to adjust her schedule as her recovery progresses more slowly than anticipated. While King Charles, 75, is set to represent the royal family at the prestigious premiere, Camilla remains focused on recuperation under her doctors’ advice.
A challenging November for the queen consort
The queen’s health struggles began shortly after a grueling royal tour to Australia and Samoa with King Charles. The trip coincided with the king’s continuation of his cancer treatment and left the queen battling an illness that developed into a chest infection.
On November 5, Buckingham Palace issued a statement confirming her illness, saying:
“Her Majesty the queen is currently unwell with a chest infection, for which her doctors have advised a short period of rest. With great regret, Her Majesty has therefore had to withdraw from her engagements for this week, but she very much hopes to be recovered in time to attend this weekend’s Remembrance events as normal.”
Despite initial optimism, Queen Camilla was absent from key Remembrance Day activities, including the wreath-laying ceremony at the Cenotaph on November 12. Other members of the royal family, including King Charles, Prince William, and Princess Kate, stepped up to fulfill these solemn duties. The 78-year-old Duchess of Gloucester also represented the queen at the annual opening of the Field of Remembrance at Westminster Abbey.

Although still recovering, Camilla returned to host the prestigious Booker Prize ceremony at Clarence House. Literature being a well-known passion of hers, she expressed her disappointment at having to leave the event early. Speaking to attendees, the queen reassured them she was “getting much better” but admitted the illness was “hanging on for a little bit.”
“It always takes a bit of time to get rid of these things,” she said. “Hopefully, I’m on the mend now.”
Gladiator II premiere goes on without the queen
The queen’s most recent withdrawal is from the Royal Film Performance of Gladiator II, part of the London Film and TV Charity’s centenary celebrations. The event, which raises funds for struggling cinema workers, is an annual highlight of the royal calendar. King Charles will now attend the Leicester Square premiere solo, marking the 72nd Royal Film Performance hosted by the charity.
Queen Camilla’s illness has sparked an outpouring of sympathy and support from royal watchers and fans. Many have praised her dedication to duty despite health challenges and are wishing her a speedy recovery.
As she takes time to fully regain her strength, the queen’s resilience continues to inspire those following her journey. Let’s join together in sending warm wishes for her full recovery. 💌
