On March 4, Alejandra, Richard’s wife, confirmed the passing of Homer George Gere through an Instagram post. She shared the story of his life, stating that the North Syracuse community activist had died in North Salem, New York, on March 1, 2023. At the time of his death, he was 100 years old.
Homer Gere had been a successful insurance agent until he retired at 65. He was well-known in the community as a talented entrepreneur and was recognized for his volunteer work with North Area Meals on Wheels. As a supporter of this non-profit organization, he appeared in national ads alongside his son, Richard Gere.
Although Richard, the star of Pretty Woman, has not yet spoken publicly about his father’s passing, it is likely that he is deeply saddened. In past interviews, he often mentioned his father’s support and even called Homer his “hero.”

Only a few months back, Richard Gere and his family gathered at a restaurant to honor Homer, who turned 100 years old.
In May 2022, Homer’s birthday celebration took place at Pastabilities, an old restaurant in Armory Square, New York.
Following the celebration, the restaurant shared a photo and wrote, “Richard Gere came in to Pasta’s tonight to celebrate his fathers 100th birthday.”
It is known that Homer had a significant impact on Richard’s life, so much that the famous actor named his son Homer as well.
At the age of 73, Richard Gere experienced a health issue while on a vacation in Mexico with his family, including his wife Alejandra Silva and their two kids.
While on holiday, the actor reportedly caught the flu. His cough, which he had before, got worse in Mexico. He went to the hospital and doctors found out he had pneumonia. The actor stayed in the hospital for a night to be watched, but was let go the next day.
We send our heartfelt condolences to Richard Gere and his family during this challenging period.
