Savannah Guthrie’s mom still missing — neighbor’s roof clue leads FBI to hidden camera
A neighbor’s sharp observation leads police to search unexpected places in the growing mystery of Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance.
Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie, is still missing — and now a neighbor’s tip about her roof has led to a surprising clue: a hidden camera.
It’s been over a week since Nancy Guthrie vanished from her home in Tucson, Arizona. With no clear leads, the search has become more urgent. Authorities say they’re treating the case as a possible kidnapping, and Savannah Guthrie and her family recently shared that they’ve received a message from someone claiming to be involved.
“We have received your message and we understand,” Savannah said in a video posted on Instagram. “We beg you now to return our mother to us so that we can celebrate with her.”
One of the most important clues so far came from a neighbor named Laura Gargano. While watching TV coverage of the case, she noticed something odd in aerial footage of Nancy’s home: the roof looked too clean.
“When you recoat a flat roof, it usually gets dirty again pretty fast — especially after rain,” she told CNN. “It looked like someone had been up there.”
Laura reported her observation, and the FBI acted quickly. Agents climbed onto the roof and found a wired camera that hadn’t been discovered earlier.

Retired NYPD Inspector Paul Mauro said the device could be a key piece of evidence. “If that camera was recording when Nancy disappeared, it might show important movement around the house,” he told Fox News.
In another unexpected move, detectives searched the septic tank in the backyard of Nancy’s home. Drone footage showed officers opening the manhole and probing inside with a long pole. It’s unclear what they were looking for, and officials haven’t shared whether anything was found.
Still, it shows that investigators are exploring every possibility — even the places you’d least expect.
Investigators also removed a blue Subaru SUV from the garage. It’s believed to belong to Nancy, but police haven’t explained why it was towed or whether it plays a role in the case.
Meanwhile, a local news station received a mysterious message that might be linked to Nancy’s disappearance. Authorities are now reviewing it to see if it’s real or just another distraction.
Despite all these developments, officials say they still don’t have any suspects. Every tip is being followed up, but the case remains unsolved.
As the search continues, Savannah Guthrie and her family are leaning on each other — and on public support. Their message is clear: they just want their mom back.
Thanks to a neighbor’s sharp eye, investigators have found new clues in the puzzling case of Nancy Guthrie. But so far, no one knows what really happened. Now, the whole country is watching — hoping for answers, and for Nancy to come home safely.
