Three men try to rob 77-year-old grandma at atm—they quickly learn they picked the wrong person
Many people share a special connection with their grandparents, who are often gentle, considerate, and more lenient than parents. As children grow up, they come to appreciate how grandparents can turn ordinary things into extraordinary experiences.
This holds true for 77-year-old Winifred Peel from Wirral, UK, who serves as a reminder that grandparents should not be underestimated. From a young age, people learn that it’s futile to challenge their grandparents, as they have a wealth of experience and wisdom that ultimately guides the outcome.
One day, elderly Winifred visited an ATM to take out money. While carefully covering her PIN, she saw someone approaching her from behind. Suddenly, two men pushed her off balance, and a third man appeared. One of the assailants attempted to withdraw £200 from Winifred’s account.
The men were thieves, intent on emptying Winifred’s account. As one of them tried to take the money, Winifred quickly devised a plan. She took hold of the man’s collar and forcefully slammed his head into the ATM, using all her strength.
Winifred struck the man’s head against the machine three times, causing the thieves to run away in fear. Afterward, she contacted the police, who later arrested the assailants.
The police could easily identify the robbers, thanks to the head injury one of them had sustained from Winifred’s courageous defense. The culprits, Piper Dumitru, Florin Gebelscu, and Felix Stoica, confessed their guilt in court and received jail sentences.
The prosecutor revealed that the thieves had driven to the village in search of vulnerable targets. Winifred, as quoted by British news outlet Metro, stated that the robbers showed no concern for the impact their actions would have on her life. The incident had a lasting effect, diminishing her confidence.
“They did not care about how this would affect me,” Winifred said, as per British source Metro. “I would definitely say this has changed my life, I will never have the confidence I once did.”
However, growing up with three brothers and regularly attending the gym four days a week endowed Winifred with a tenacity that the robbers hadn’t anticipated.
Indeed, Winifred’s actions are commendable, and she likely taught those criminals a lesson. It is unacceptable to rob anyone, but targeting a 77-year-old grandmother is especially disgraceful.
Celebrate Winifred’s bravery by sharing her story with friends and recognizing her as an inspiring “iron grandma”
