Stingy husband wishes to be buried with his wealth—the widow’s response is brilliantly cunning
Having a partner who doesn’t like to share can be quite tough. When you’re sharing your life with someone, you also have to learn to share things, like money. This story is about a time when this situation got a bit unusual.
There was this lady whose husband really loved his money. He loved it so much that he asked her to bury him with all his money when he passed away. Isn’t that strange?
This man had spent his whole life working and saving his money. He really didn’t like to spend it, and loved his money more than anything else. Just before he passed away, he told his wife something really strange.
He said, ‘Now listen, when I die I want you to take all my money and place it in the casket with me. Because I want to take all my money to the afterlife.’, I want you to put all my money in my coffin with me. I want to take it with me to the next life.’
His wife, a very respectful woman, wanted to keep her promise to her husband, even though it seemed pretty silly. She was trying to figure out a clever way to fulfill his odd wish without really wasting all that money.
One day, this man passed away. At his funeral, he was in his coffin and his wife, dressed in black, was sitting next to their closest friend. As the funeral ended and before the workers were about to close the coffin, the wife suddenly said, “Wait a minute!”
She had brought a shoebox with her to the funeral. She walked up to the coffin, put the shoebox inside with her husband, and then the workers closed and took the coffin away.
The wife’s friend asked her, ‘I hope you weren’t crazy enough to put all that money in there with that stingy old man.’ She said, ‘Yes, I promised. I’m a good Christian, I can’t lie. I promised him that I was to put that money in that casket with him.’
The friend was shocked and asked, ‘You mean to tell me you put every cent of his money in the casket with him?’ The wife smiled and said, ‘I sure did,’ said the wife. ‘I got it all together, put it into my account and I wrote him a check.’”
